BRNA’S
NEIGHBOR’S IN NEED PROGRAM REACHES OUT!
The
Hitchcock Pool Saga
Your
President did it! Virgil’s mission to keep kids in a safe and secure
environment for one more week, succeeded. He spearheaded this positive move: an
extra week of swimming for the kids to stay off the streets. The Omaha community hopped on the band wagon and
started giving towards this effort.
Then other parts of the city started mimicking Virg’s efforts, they were
also successful. Four out of the 8 pools scheduled to close, remained open
in Omaha,
despite the cities budget crisis. Thanks to members of our community, Virg
also ask the city to give a Free day, as long as a can of food was donated to a
food bank. With such extra outpouring, BRNA was able to throw a Free
Family Picnic with Food and Prizes. Although the rains may have scared
some people away, over 300 people came out for the festivities. The workers at Hitchcock said, “This was
the most they ever collected in a food drive.” The food was place in the Mission for All Nations
van parked nearby. Within
two breaks, soaked kids waited for
their names to be called out to win Twenty 2010 swimming passes, 16 Applebee’s
and Village Inn gift card, T-shirts from South Omaha Boys and Girls Club, ball,
jump ropes and other prizes were also given away. As the rains kept on coming, BRNA closed
shop and sent the rest of the food and drinks to the Stephens Center to help feed the needy. Please remember to patronize the
businesses and thank the givers who gave.
